How It Feels to be Colored Me
One thing I consider to be good about my color is that I am not too dark, but neither am I white. I consider myself fair skin, which helps a lot when I go out. I don’t get as many bad looks as many colored people.
I have gotten discriminated by my color, who hasn’t? Just because I am colored, even if it’s not dark, people see me as not capable of buying something expensive, they think we Mexicans are poor or something. Being colored me helps me “blend in” with my culture, and in cases it gives me opportunities others may not have. For example, colleges would want to have more Hispanics enrolled. Many jobs want bilingual workers, mostly ones that speak Spanish other than Chinese or Korean.
I hadn’t had a problem in school with race until I attended Schurr High School. Asians, Mexicans, and, people from Iran or someplace over there. That is when I started noticing the race problem. But not until this year, in Woesners class did I really look into it.
