My America

America is supposedly a land of “Freedom of Speech” “Freedom of Expression” and of “Liberty and Justice for All”. Everywhere, you see America being labeled as the “Land of Freedom” and the “Land of Opportunity”. To me, America is a land of racism and hypocrisy. America is full of racism, hypocrisy, corruption, and scandals.

Till this day racism is still alive, people have just got better at concealing it. Nazis, white supremacist, and other racist people still make up an amount of Americas population. Throughout history, black people have been granted more liberty and more rights but are still victims of discrimination. Mexicans were never slaves but till this day we are still looked down on and still considered inferior. In schools, students are not allowed to express their culture or values due to dress code. In a high school, a student, who was half Irish, got suspended for wearing a kilt, in another high school, a student got expelled for having a distinct haircut and hair color. People everyday of every race, whether it be White, Mexican, Latin, Chinese, Japanese, etc., are victims of racism and discrimination in some way.

This should make everyone think, Is America really a country of “Freedom” and “Equality”? In a T.V. interview, Rap artist, Kayne West said, “George Bush does not care about Black people”. People should stop and reflect on their experiences, have I been a victim of racism? Or have I ever been racist against someone? We as a society must learn to live with one another if we ever want to separate ourselves from animals.

Thanks for the honest response. Your conclusion is strong, really getting the reader to ask her/himself key questions to confronting racism. Excellent work.
